How to Prevent Sinus Infections During Seasonal Changes

As the weather changes, so does your risk for sinus infections. Prevent flare-ups by staying hydrated, using a humidifier in dry environments, and washing your hands regularly to reduce allergens and infections. Consider wearing a mask during dusty seasons and avoid known sinus triggers like sudden temperature shifts or strong perfumes.

MicroCare ENT Tip: Regular nasal rinses and early treatment of cold symptoms can prevent sinus infections from worsening.

Blowing your nose too hard, living in dry indoor air, or frequently picking your nose can damage your nasal lining. Smoking or exposure to pollutants can also irritate nasal tissues over time.

Nasal congestion is often a temporary symptom from allergies or a cold. Sinusitis, however, lasts longer and includes facial pressure, discolored mucus, and fatigue. If your blocked nose persists beyond 10 days, it could be sinusitis and may need medical evaluation.
